twin turbo
im not going to pretend to know much about fabricating turbo set-ups or anything of the sort, but the other day i started thinking, and i was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the subject.
I was wondering if it was possible and if so how hard it would be to do a twin turbo set up on one of the new saab's get it enough power to truly compete with the higher priced bmws and such. thanks for your opinions |

Most Saab engines have four cylinders, using twin turbos on a straight four is quite pointless.
However, Saab is coming with a new twin turbo V6 engine for the 9-3ss. The engine will be based on the same V6 engine as in the 2004 Cadillac CTS. The car will also have a 4WD system from Haldex. |

The best thing to do is tune the 4cyl, adding such pieces as a tubular manifold, a larger turbo, and a front mount intercooler. For some strange reason, I have never seen one person out there with a "tuned" Saab.

Saab engines responds very well to tuning (global and Opel engines excluded). Stock exhaust manifolds and heads are good for up to around 400 hp, there aren't actually so many mods needed to reach 400 hp.
There are several Saab that have been tuned up to over 400 as well as 500 hp. There are even one that are "tuned" to run on ethanol, and with a weight of over 1600 kg the FWD car does the quarter mile in 11, seconds, not that bad. But meanest off all Saabs are probably the Saab 9-3 Viggen "Pikes Peak", with 800 hp at 4000 meters altitude (equals 30% powerloss compared to sea level), tubular frame chassi, and a weight of around 1000 kg the car is the current record holder in the class "Pikes Peak Open". |

The engine in the older 9-3 is much better and there are much more choices when it comes to tuning, for example you can look at www.maptun.com In the older engine no interna parts are needed to be replaced until around 350hp. The pistons can be replaced with aftermarket units or with the older Saab pistons with conrods which are good for +600hp. Some info about the older engine can be found here: http://www.saab-edu.com/brochures/to...n_2_Engine.pdf |

Re: twin turbo
When you say a twin turbo 9-3ss, you do infact mean a set-up with 2 turbos not the current twin-scroll single turbo set-up?

if you want to tune your 9-3 just go to www.genuinesaab.com they have all the best performance mods and wont damage your engine like some chips. i own a viggen and the car is pretty mean i love it. im getting a stage 3 ecu and full exhaust so the car will be crazzy
