Validation and a question

Afternoon! Just looking for some validation here... I just purchased a show room clean 96 ram sport 1500 with the 5.2 v8. The transmission is in the bed.

First question: If I payed $2500 for it did I pay too much?

Second: I have read a lot about the transmissions in this truck - is it common for the trans to get rebuilt at the 80k mile mark?
