Swirl porting for power and cleaner combustion

OK, things are awful slow around here.

You lurkers, and you know who you are, can start typing questions and providing information any time now.

Here is my Metric Mechanic prepared head.

The purpose is to remove the need for an intercooler when I add my 9 psi KKK27 turbo.

Hey now, I have no relationship to Metric Mechanic except my purchasing products for over 25 years. They do not even send me a calendar.

Made my trip to see Metric Mechanic, Jim Rowe, he is older than I remember.

Jim and the #1 son Teddy took my 745i head, my money, and provided more than a few things I need to mull over.

Oh yes, the real reason for this post is the swirl cut and porting on the BMW big six, M30. Of course MM uses this on all it's toys.

Back to the swirl cut, Jim has found that the laminar surface airflow is enhanced with the pictured patterns. He also admitted that there was lots of scrap made learning what is good and bad.

He has used this for so long he seldom needs to put it on the flow bench unless you need over 400 hp. Do not try to free hand this unless you want to make beer cans. Porting and matching are a little more specific to each head and I will just say they do it.

E-mail them at mmbmw@webound.com. Mrs Rowe handles digital communications and Jim is phone enabled.

She works on the WEB site and he trains his puppy. Teddy does the real work. A lot of Elves do the rest.

I had the big Elf to insert some valves to show the valve tulip work they do also.

KC, looks like you have had good luck with MM... was thinking abut getting the MM 300 exhaust for my '85 M635. Good to hear that they do quality work.

Yep

Metric Mechanic was in KC for 20 years.

I resisted Jim's advise on a radiator for an e21 Calloway Turbo for 23 years.

I finally had no choice but to follow his advise and repace that radiator.

A great change in that car, and a little crow for lunch for me, made it a real deal.

They are now located in the southern part of the state of Missouri, near Branson.

He had a demo car, of his making, that would scare any one silly enough to go for a ride.

Let me see, I have information on an M5 exhaust.

Here is an M5 getting a new Getrag 265 transmission.
The exhaust is Metric Mechanic, and MM is doing the transmission.

Here is a Dyno run with that exhaust, yep it is over 450 hp.

This is the only picture of the MM M5 tailpipe I could find.

Here is Pat's CarDomain for Big Red.
