Woudl you rather build up a VR6 GTI, or a Civic (B18C swap allowed)?
You could use JUN, Spoon, Mugen, or Toda parts to build up your B18C, or you could build up the VR6 with a low boost turbo, or any Schrick etc parts you like.. which would you choose? Point of interest: I priced out the cost of doing a 5th gen Civic hatch with B18C fully NA built and a mkIII GTI VR6 with low boost turbo/SC setup, and they both ended up within a grand of each other.. and would run similar 1/4 mile times (around 14 flat)

I'd have to go with the GTI, I think the modded Civics are way too common

Modded Civic
It probably comes down to what brand you like better. I am surprised that the Civic and GTI turned in similar performance for about the same amount of cash. I would imagine that with the same amounts of cash, you could get a lot more torque and probably en edge in horsepower as well from a VR6-powered GTI over a Civic, even with a B18C1.
But yes, I would definitely take the Civic. |

Splurge on the GTi VR6..All time torque monster VR6 with a 10 Psi EIP Stage 1 with Stage 2 Fueling system..That thing will make a tremendous amount of power, and be able to rip most H cars a new asshole..Just my choice!!

GTI, as carman has already noted, Civics are just too common.... I don't like common things.

id go vw...
they are so cool... and yeah, the civic is overdone... and the civic looks kinda entrylevel to me... whereas the vw just looks badass... not to put the civic down, but how many well modded gti's have you seen? vs civics... civics are a dime a dozen, and 3/4 of em are more show than go... vw's are rarely like that and i just love german shit i used to have a 2dr jetta and it was quick for a 4cyl auto... tell me how many 2dr jettas you have EVER seen... then tell me how many 2dr civics you have seen... get what im sayin??? :licker: |

Re: Fully prepped Civic vs fully prepped GTI
did you also say that you're talking only 14 seconds with a built b18 civic? right.
or the gti with a boosted vr6? only 14 seconds for these cars? what are you doing, putting auto trannies in them? you'll easily be in the 13's with both cars. and i can't believe that this thread, over 2 years old, just got resurrected. dayum. |

Re: Fully prepped Civic vs fully prepped GTI
since he said it would be NA... oh yeah... that...
jun internals? why jun? just b/c you like the name? what's wrong with toda's cams and headwork? or JE pistons? get off the JDM trip and go for what works best... not what sounds best. the civic should win... why? what's your reasoning? do you know how fast the vr6 is with a turbo on it? what's your reasoning for why it'd win? |

Re: Fully prepped Civic vs fully prepped GTI
IMO the VR6s look better, are more unique, are better engineered, and will require less work to go fast. Shoot for at least 13s, anything slower than that isn't really fast. Anyway, the VR6 can handle a decent amount of extra boost on the stock internals. Also, why build a n/a 4 banger? You won't go anywhere fast unless you have an ass load of money.
