is it possible to make evo from lancer?

Can you fit a regular body kit for an evolution to a lancer? Cos i know I won't be rich enough to own a real evolution, so they thought came across my mind if i could just buy the evolution bumpers and side skirts, and put them onto a lancer. Is it possible?

No you can't, the sheetmetal is significantly different.

Also, that would be rice at its worst since the car would still perform like a base model.

Silly answer man:

Ofcourse you can do the transformation, it will just cost a bit of money since the bodyshells are the same.

For example on an EVO 1-2-3 the front fenders are slightly different from an fwd to an EVO. & aslo the front bumper.

those are already evo's though, they do share the same chassis, but the fender flares and other mods that it takes to make it an "evo" are different. I don't know if you've compared a Lancer to a newer one, but it looks "skimpy" compared to the evo. Don't forget things like wheels, hood and etc.

and what evo model are you talking about?

He lives in the US, so the earliest Lancer he could get is a 2002

didn't notice that, it would be a lot of custom fab to get it to look like a 7, or 8?

Re: is it possible to make evo from lancer?

We used to ask that question back in the day prior to the release of the Evo in 2003, and the Evo VIII in 2004.

2003 models were not badged nor sold in the U.S. as EVO VIII's.
2004 were the first. While I don't see much difference.

Either way, point is, it would take a lot. I waited 10 years to finally get one. I followed it back in the days of Tommy Mak, in WRC. EVO IV and V days, then onto the EVO VI and Tommy's championships.

Just bought my 04, five days ago...grinning ever since!

Re: is it possible to make evo from lancer?

I was actually browsing Ebay and they have a lot of conversion kits n stuff.

Anyways i meant i won't be rich enough for now. Im only 17 lol, n i don't feel like spending over 20k on my first real car. The reason I was considering a conversion kit is because a lancer is way cheaper. And over time, like in a period of over a year, i could spend money on upgrades one at a time, not spend 20k at once.

Re: is it possible to make evo from lancer?

Driftflow, totaly understandable. And what control...Not wanting to spend the money out weighs the grins of the car...very good control indeed.

Interesting thought I had after posting earlier: Back in the day when the Gen 1 Eclipse premiered, it had 4 editions. The regular 1.8 2 wheel drive, 2.0 GS 2 wheel drive, 2.0 GST 2 wheel drive, and then the 2.0 GST AWD. Why did they not build the Lncer ES, OZ Rally, and then the EVO and EVO MR on the same platform, so that the body's were the same. Multitude of parts, and sharing the same motor for crimeny sakes....

My point is, I think Mitsubishi America screwed the pooch when bringing the Lancer and the Lancer EVO to the states. They could of dominated the Tuner Market. But these are same arguments that plagued us back in 03.

On my 03 OZ Rally, I tried just about everything to get it to the level of the EVO, and at the time, there just wasn't that much. A kit car is cool and worth the respect for the dedication you may or may not put into it, but that's it, it's a kit car, and not an original. Who cares on the opininon of others here, it's whether or not you are ok with knowing, it just isn't the EVO.
And if you are, then thumbs up, and again, great control...

Re: is it possible to make evo from lancer?

You'll spend more than $20k trying to turn a base lancer into an Evo.

Re: is it possible to make evo from lancer?

blah

the drivetrain itself would be where most of your money will go

you going for looks or just a complete evo conversion

you have to remember to two main fact

I. The evo is mostly a hybrid car. It was pieced together when the first EVO I came out, wich had the 3000 GT's motor in it. It has grown since then

II. The Lancer is an economy car

If you pull it off, it'll be something like the beginning evo's. In your case if you go for a complete conversion, you'll have more chances to save weight and other such things

BUT

a less rigid body as well

Re: is it possible to make evo from lancer?

The Evo did not have a 3000GT engine.

It had the engine from the Galant VR4, not the 3000GT.

Re: is it possible to make evo from lancer?

Wasn't it always the 4g63 spec x...?

I have followed them for a long time, since the III or IV. I always thought it was the 4 cylinder turbo 4g63 of some sort.
