1995 Airbag Sensor Assembly Fitment

I have a 95 Tercel. The airbag light has been on for some time now. Looking around, it seems most agree that it's a problem with the airbag sensor assembly. I plan on going to the junk yard this weekend and looking for one. My question is, is it only 95 and newer years that would fit my 95? Would the same assembly from a 95 or newer Paseo also work? Thanks for any info!

Re: 1995 Airbag Sensor Assembly Fitment

Found out the following three Toyota part numbers will fit my car:
89170-16020
89170-16021
89170-16050 (being the most updated one)

I went to the junk yard this morning and found a 97 Tercel with the 16050 in it. The car hadn't been wrecked, so I got the piece ($22.99 vs. $675.45 at the dealer), put it in, started the car, and the stupid airbag light still stays on. Found a Toyota dealer not far from here that will do a free diagnostic on the airbag system for me on Monday. The local dealer wants $120 to do it.

Just my luck. The problems with my car are never the obvious fixes.

While researching this issue, I found a GREAT website to use for part numbers and fitment:

Re: 1995 Airbag Sensor Assembly Fitment

Lesson learned: check out ALL research before buying parts you don't need. I decided to look behind the airbag this afternoon after finding more info on the clock spring possibly being the problem. Sure enough, one of the wires is broken right at the connection. UGH! Too late to do anything now, but will try and fix it tomorrow morning.

Re: 1995 Airbag Sensor Assembly Fitment

Took out the clock spring this morning, and the wire was broken at the worst possible place. Right at the connection. There was no way for me to fix it, so off to the junkyard I went. Luckily the one Tercel in the yard still had it. Got it for a whopping $11, got it installed, connected everything back together, started the car, the airbag light stayed on for the 6 seconds it was supposed to and then went off as it's supposed to. Done!
