95 Jimmy Oxygen Sensor questions

Hello again,

How many o2 sensors are on the 95 gmc jimmy with the V6. My manual says 3. Well it talks about 2 but states there is 3? I am pulling a code from time to time P0137. Manual is not very helpful. I think I read somewhere that there is 2 oxygen sensors by the cat. but I also read that there is only one back there. If there is 2, which one would be causing that code to pop? Note: system is obd 1.5. Sorry, have not crawled under and actually looked yet.

Thanks in advance!
Jessie

engine code?
W or Z?

Single exhaust You may have 3 or 4
Code 137 is bank 1 Sensor 2/ second sensor back on that bank.

Craw under there and have a look.
If there is a sensor between cat and front bank 1 and 2 sensors
That will be bank 1 sensor 2.
If not any there then it will be behind/rear of cat.
And remember code does not say replace sensor but check/test it out.

Find the bank 1 sensor 1 and bank 2 sensor 1 in exhaust manifolds oe right behind them in exhaust pipe.

Re: 95 Jimmy Oxygen Sensor questions

Ok, looked under the truck today, only found 2 sensors. One right behind the cat and before the muffler, and one a little further up from the cat. Seen no more, went all the way to the headers. I am assuming if the sensor is bad it would be the one behind the cat giving a p0137? Any tips on getting the frozen tight sensor out? Thanks again, Jesse

Code z or w engine?????????

If one behind cat and one in front of cat it would br one in front of cat.
When you say headers.
Do you have stock exhaust manifolds or real headers?
If headers have been installed the front sensors bank 1 -1 and bank 2-sensor 1 may have been left off.!!!!!!!!

On removing sensor a good 02 sensor wrench is best.
May help to warm up the exhaust some but not real hot.

Re: 95 Jimmy Oxygen Sensor questions

Sorry code would be W. Also, it is the stock exhaust manifolds. There is one before and one after the cat. So you think the sensor pulling the code would be pulling from the one before the cat? A few months ago I had a p0134 code that I pulled 2x but that has not came back. I thought that would of been the one before the cat? But I dont know. I have a new sensor and wanted to replace it first cause they have not been replaced in 16 years. Just dont know which one to replace now? Thanks again

Ok .
Looks like jimmy is a little different on 02 sensors.

I checked Shop key repair manual wiring diagrams.
95 GMC Jimmy 4.3 code W with PCM computer only shows 1 behind cat.

95 GMC jimmy 4.3 Code W engine with VCM shows 2 - 02 sensors.
One in front and 1 behind cat.

If you have 2 then you should have a VCM computer.

Sensor 1 bank 1 would be in front of cat and Bank 1 sensor 2 behind cat.
If you are just replacing only one sensor I always put new sensor in front and put old from bank 1 sensor 1 from front to the rear one behind cat if both sensors are the same.

Or just replace both and be done with it.

Good Luck and letn us know how it goes.
