Re: 1991 geo tracker

Could you please give us a more detailed description of how the Tracker is acting? Is it hesitating or stuttering on take off and/or up hill? Does is stall at certain times? What trouble shooting have you already done other than the timing advance? Have you run any fuel cleaner/dryer through the system?

If the timing advance did that much good you may want to start by checking spark plugs. Are they clean and properly gapped? Check the plug wires. Run the car at idle in the shade, do you see any arcing? Are the plug wires properly routed and in good condition? Next the distributor cap. Any carbon tracking, cracks, or other defects inside or out? Check the rotor. Is it worn out? Check the reluctor/ignition module under the rotor plate. Is it in good condition? Is your air filter new? Is your fuel filter clogged?

Get the Haynes or Chilton's manual and chase through the trouble shooting steps and let us know what you find.

Good luck.
