Re: MFH Ferrari F40 GTE IGOL Monza 96
Time for another update folks! I’m trying to finish this one before the new years! I’ve been working on interior for the past few weeks, and here is what I managed to do:
Body panels of F40 were made from Kevlar, so I decided to replicate kevlar on as many panels as I can with decals. Roof and side panels were covered with kevlar, and then clearcoated. I used Crazy Modeler kevlar decals and they are really good. ![]() ![]() ![]() Firewall and front of the cabin received carbon fiber (KA Models decals) and BMF treatment. All inner panels were painted flat black. ![]() Then I made several flexible ducts using thin wire and Teflon tape – they turned out great – flexible, hollow, and look like the real thing! Winfshield frame was also decaled with Kevlar, vent duct painted flat black. ![]() ![]() Then I started working on a dash. Once base parts were painted, I detailed it with various wires, knobs, switches, and lamps. ![]() ![]() I decided not to do opening side windows on this model simply because the windows are a bit curvy, and I thought I won’t be able to make them work right. But, I decided to rivet the guides to the glass with real rivets this time. Very patiently I have drilled the guides and the windows and assembled the whole thing. I think it turned out great. ![]() Windows and windshield were then glued into the shell, side door panels and dashboard installed too. ![]() ![]() ![]() Then I started adding more C/F to various parts - front undertray, cooling ducts, etc. Front bonnet and engine lid were painted flat black inside, they still need to be C/F decaled, but I’m leaving this nightmare for later. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Interior was covered with Kevlar, shown not clearcoated in this picture. ![]() All electronic components were assembled painted and decaled. I used Top Studio connector sets, Hiro wires, and stock decals. ![]() Interior was clearcoated, and then electronics wired and installed into the tub. ![]() Fire suppression system tank was detailed, along with the shifter assembly and the roll cage. ![]() Seat was painted, decaled, and fitted with a racing harness. ![]() ![]() And then I started carefully assembling everything together. Upper roll cage was installed on the roof (notice antenna wiring too!) ![]() Then the rest of the roll cage and other stuff was installed into the interior tub. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Few more pics with the seat and dash (not glued). Now I need to assemble the interior and chassis together. ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks! |

Well, I really don't know what to say.
This is looking so incredibly awesome. Unbelievable. I too really like the idea with the wire and teflon for the cooling ducts. They look really the part. Must try that myself sometime. |

Beautiful work as usual Alex... and great idea with the Teflon tape trick! Could the hose have been weathered a bit though?

Re: MFH Ferrari F40 GTE IGOL Monza 96
Superb build!! I love the ECU boxes detail. Its amazing how different the
motor and gearbox on the Hiro kit is from the Tamiya even though the block is the same on production and racing F40's. Hiro did a great job on all the F40LM's and GTE's. Tom Tanner/Scale Designs/Ferrari Expo 2009 Model contest-Chicago April 25th 2009 at Continental Autosport Ferrari/Maserati |
