12 hour marathon build.
Hi guys!
Yesterday I pulled off the second marathon build at my place in Romme, Sweden just about 25 km from Falun where the world championships in skiing is held at the moment. I think we all had our share and version of Mördarbacken (murder hill) when we tackled AMT's "fantastic" Gremlin X ![]() The thing is that I buy a kit that is secret and then we meet at my restaurant to build from 9 AM to 9 PM and it's amazing to see how different every car turns out. The basic rule is that you have to be able to see what subject we all started with but besides that change, kitbash and do what ever you think's needed! Well, enough and on to the pictures: http://smg.photobucket.com/user/proo...=recent&page=1 /Niclas |

Re: 12 hour marathon build.
I love the idea!
How do you manage the whole spray paint/drying time in such a place and short time??? |

Re: 12 hour marathon build.
Well, the painting seems not to be the biggest problem as most of us use either laquers or acrylics that cure quite fast. At least so fast that it can be handled in a couple of hours and in the meantime you can adress the rest of the kit.
It helps to keep it simple and not get carried away with grand plans of a contest winner so to speak. /Niclas |

Re: 12 hour marathon build.
Thank you guys!
The fumes isn't a major problem as I cover up a large section under the kitchen ventilation that moves a lot of air in no time at all. Here Peter is going to put som paint on some of his parts: ![]() As being the organizer of the whole thing I don't get full time building as I also had to prepare and serve lunch and dinner. I think I managed to get some 9 to 10 hours building time and because of that I didn't manage to finish my build this year either. This is what I got done. Took the chassi from Revell's Lincoln LSC Pro Street and was amazed at how well it fitted under the Gremlin. Just shortend it 12mm in the middle and chopped of a section at the rear. Then it had a clean fit under the body. I had to fix the rollcage but that was no big deal either. The engine is the Hemi from Revells 1968 Charger and that also was an easy task after some engine mounts from styren strip was glued to the frame. Some picutres from my progress coming right up, I plan to have it finished until CCM-Open i Stockholm in April. Chassi before paint (flat black all over): ![]() A mock up to test the ride height: ![]() ...and here it is when time was up with windows just taped in place for good looks: ![]() /Niclas |
