My Megane got rear ended, possible gear damage?

Some stupid teenage driver wanted to show his muscles to his girlfriend and floored the car just before a red light and, long story short I got rear ended pretty badly. I was in 2nd going for a stop when he hit me, and the impact was pretty bad. The car was at around 1500 rpm before impact and it spiked at around 3000 rpm or even more when he hit me. I told the garage to inspect the gearbox but I doubt they really did so, since they told me the gears were fine, although I know there's some chipped teeth on the 2nd gear. So what do you guys think? Should I be expecting a failing second gear soon? I'm driving a 1.9 dci engine. Thanks for your time.

What makes you so sure there are chipped teeth on the second gear?
