92 olds bravada
Hi , long story short. 92 olds bravada 4.3(w) 96k. Had have high idle problems, surging idle, stalling and going dead while driving down the road. Got a few codes: 45 "running rich" , map sensor code, egr code.
So overtime to fix symptoms , replaced the IAC, TPS, MAP( known to be good) , Cleaned EGR replaced with screened gasket, new temp coolant sensor. Took off the top manifold checked the plenum to see if i had leaky regulator or fuel lines, was dry. Kinda out of ideas, figured id check with the community. Buddy thinks it might be the computer at this point, but wanted to check if others had same issue or heard of them. If anyone has some ideas or needs some info, just lemme know . Thanks for your time. Last edited by ZZ92OLDS; 02-24-2011 at 04:04 AM. |

Re: 92 olds bravada
Hi, sorry for not reposting , lifes a harsh mistress!
Anyway, an update. I replaced the computer new remanufact unit from parts store, used old prom. Instantly was better , idle in park is where it should be, however. Soon as i give it gas , or drive , i get a SES light, checked code , 22. TPS voltage low So cleared code, checked again, same issue. Soon as i let off the gas, the light goes off, back on the gas the light comes back on. TPS was replaced 30 days ago new. Figured maybe defective, so took it back and replaced it. So i threw a new TPS on there, still same issue, code 22. My question is , what am i not doing right? Is there some procedure to follow when installing a TPS? Also it occured to me to maybe check some voltages . Would anyone please care to give me some tips on what they would to to troubleshoot that , i would be appreciative =) Kinda learning as i go here, and i've gotten some good info off this site! |

If code 22 low voltage you need to check TPS sesor voltage with a good volt/ohm meter. Check with key on and tps connected. Black wire is ground. Gray wire is 5 volt reference voltage. If good ground and reference voltage key on you should see 4.5-5 volts there. If good reference voltage go to the Dark blue signal to pcm wire. At closed throttle it should read 1.25 specs or little less. And swing up to 4.5-5 volts wide open throttle. As to procedure to install TPS sensor When you install tps make sure you catch it on the spring loaded. position. A lot of TPS sensors are not adjustable. But If you miss it the tps sensor will not work right and coul show low or no voltage. Also confirm good plugin and wiring to computer. The signal voltage has to get to and into the pcm. Post back your voltage readngs. For more help.

Pull tps sensor and check voltage to PCM while turning tps sensor with a wide bladed screw driver. But be careful and not turn it hard or force it to turn. It should turn real easy if you turn it in right direction. If voltage goes up and down right when hand turning. Then reinstall it and catch throttle bodyn fingersn on the tps notches on the spring loaded position. And retest for proper voltage. POST BACK HOW THAT GOES.

Re: 92 olds bravada
update* Turns out that my TPS sensor was indeed the issue, cause pep-boys gave me the wrong one for my vehicle! Did the testing and just decided it was the sensor and replaced it.
I went to the dealer , picked up an ACdelco brand one, and my issues went away and truck is finally running normally, no lights , no codes. Voltages where they should be per spec. Comparing the 2 sensor brands, they are indexed differently and were quite visually apparent. Pep boys only sells one type of sensor for 92 bravada, and my guess its for a different version eng. I read that there are a 2.5L and 2.8L versions of the eng for the bravada and my guess is that the sensor has to be for one of them. So some advice to save someone a headache down the line, just go with ACdelco and avoid the boys if you need a 4.3L vortec eng sensor for 92 olds bravada. Just happy that my repairs for various problems on my truck are finally resolved and i have it back to top running order once again! Not bad for a 92,only 97k , clean!.Its treated me well for 11 years and coming up on 100k things are just starting to show their age. Really want to keep it as its my first car i ever bought, so doing all the right things to keep it in order! With other bravada enthusiasts lurking on the forums, its going to be fun talking with you guys about updating the Olds to keep it young =) Cheers! |

Glad you got it fixed. With only 97K thre should be many more miles left. Yes The AC delco parts are the best for GM engines. Good Luck
