95 GMC Jimmy Oil Leak

Hello again,

I have an oil leak on a gmc jimmy 4.3l. It appears to be coming from the area where the timing cover connects to the oil pan. Is there a gasket it that area or just sealant. My book says you can lower the pan and replace the cover, is that the recommended way? Any info on the job would be greatful.

Thanks again,
Jessie00721

Re: 95 GMC Jimmy Oil Leak

As a generic Statement, there should be a gasket. Oil Leaks are a Pain in the @$$, not to mention difficult to find. The oil can easily appear to be leaking from one place when it is actually running down from some place else. Clean the area with a good degreaser and wipe it clean. Make sure you know where the leak is coming from before tearing anything apart.

Tearing the front end of that engine down along with the Oil pan is a lot of work and could be very difficult. How bad is it leaking? A couple of drops? A small puddle?

Re: 95 GMC Jimmy Oil Leak

Believe me, not something I am looking forward to but its getting close to being time. I believe the area around the timing cover is correct due to the fact that cover had to be replaced before. I will clean it up and reverify, it leaks a small puddle after stopping, I put oil in it every week.
