01 Venture ABS Wiring Diagram

My 2001 Venture has the following ABS DTCs:
C1223 - Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor signal at 0,
C1227 - Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor has Excessive Variation and
C1234 - Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Open or Shorted.

I'd like to check the wiring before I replace the sensor but my Hayes manual doesn't have a wiring diagram or any other help on this problem. Can anyone point me towards a wiring diagram or any test procedures?

THANKS!!!

Re: 01 Venture ABS Wiring Diagram

I haven't looked closely at my Venture's sensors but I can't imagine they are too different from my old Windstar's. What you are getting seems to indicate a faulty wheel sensor. The wheel sensors are simple coils of wire around a core. You should be able to chack the two wires of the sensor for continuity. Disconect the sensor and use an ohmeter (multimeter). If you get an open circuit most likely you have a failed sensor. You can verifiy with a known good seonsor on another wheel.

Check the resistance of the bad one, check the resistance of the other rear one, set meter to AC, check voltage as tire is spun, same to other side. A discrepency means possible bad sensor.

Re: 01 Venture ABS Wiring Diagram

Well she's fixed now. I pulled the hub and checked for continuity in the old one and found there was none. I bought a new one and it also had no continuity. I plugged it into the wiring harness and started her up and the ABS light went out. Did the install and had no light on the test drive.

Thanks for the replies!

Re: 01 Venture ABS Wiring Diagram

How do you get the ABS DTCs ? Same as the SES codes? My ABS has been acting up over the past week or so, causing the ABS light to come on and the system to (thankfully) stop working. When the light's out, the system starts working even though there's no lock up. I'm guessing sensor problem - van has 189k on it, and I replaced the driver's front wheel bearing last year, and the pass side 2 weeks ago.

Re: 01 Venture ABS Wiring Diagram

You need a scantool that can pull ABS codes. I purchased an Equus 3160 on Amazon.com for $196 free shipping, it will do that and more. The ABS doesnt scan my 1997 tho. I think it is for 2000+ on the Venture. But ought to work with the 01

Yeah, basically the same as mine, except yours has the OBD1 capability and NO ABS capability. I built an interface for OBD1 and have WinALDL to view OBD1 datastreams/ codes, so I decided on the unit with the ABS capability. (plus I dont own any OBD1 vehicles anymore!)
