1996 Monte Carlo Starting Issues
I have a 1996 Monte Carlo with a 3100 that will start fine when it is cooled off (as in over night). When the car is warm and has been sitting for less than 5 or 6 hours, it will not start unless I play with the throttle like it is carbeurated. Once it starts it will run rough and die. If I rev it up a little 2000-3000 RPM a couple times, it will then idle and run fine. It only happens at startup when warm. I never have problems with it once I get it running, or going down the road. I would like to keep this as cheap as possible, so id like to know if there is an idle control valve or something that could be malfunctioning when it is warm. Thanks a lot.

Sounds like leaky injectors, to me.

Re: 1996 Monte Carlo Starting Issues
i ran across a grand am 3100 a few years ago with the same problem. i really dont remember what fixed it, since my master tech at my shop finally got it right, not me. but i would check the coolant temp sensor, fuel pressure, check if the ECU throws codes, and check exhaust backpressure before the cats. for some reason i seem to remember a bad ECU, but i dont know for sure.
