Rear seats, and speakers...

Hey, just a few miscellanious questions

1. Do the rear seats in a 93 lesabre fold down?
and
2. What size are the speakers in a 93 lesabre (Concert sound II). Im looking into some aftermarket ones.

Thx

Dunno about 93, but it doesn't seem to in my 94.

Just about anything can be made to fit - but it you want direct fit/replacment, I'd suggest going to crutchfield.com and putting your vehicle in the equipment selector to see what it recommends.

Post Re: Rear seats, and speakers...

After much wishing and trying, I know the seats in the early 90s LeSabres are not meant to fold down.

You can pop the sides off their hooks easily, but in the center there's a metal hook which extends into the trunk, and can't come through the sheet metal hole. (this is all on the seatback)

The only way to get the hook through is to unbolt the whole seat and tilt the seat assembly; the seats are only designed to be removed, not to be folded.

Alternatively, you could try to bend the metal hook, but when I was pulling the hook, the foam on my seatback stretched, and for the moment my seats bow out in the middle ( ).......so you could spade your seats by bending it in reverse, or worse, the force of the bend against the sheet metal could ruin it.

**You could also cut the hook off, but then the seat is only faux secure......I don't want the seat to come flying off if I brake hard! (the side hooks are only supplimentary holds--the center seems to be the mainstay)

I will get my seats to fold down, if I have to saw off the hook and find an alternative binding. I feel your pain in nonfolding seats. 17 cubic feet of trunk space isn't always enough!

P.S. you can fit an extra person in there with relative comfort if you have to lol.......I've driven a Ford Escort ZX2 1998 model with 5 people in the car, 3 of which were 200 lbs+, and 3 of which were over 6 foot tall (not the same 3).........moral of the story is that the ZX2 has 5 less cu feet of trunk space, and a 230+ 6' 1" dude fit in there.

(Now when he moved, the car felt like it had reverse steering, but that's another story)

About the speakers: In my ride, the back speakers aren't the problem; it's the front speakers where I get considerable distortion.....

4x6s in the dash, 5 1/4s in the Concert Sound II door housings, and 6x9s in the back. Seats do not fold down but with nearly 20 cubic feet in trunk space folding down the seats isn't really necessary.

Re: Rear seats, and speakers...

I've seen a LeSabre (early 90s model) around with a roof rack--he says it works well for him, but when I look at it, the parts that attach it to the frame bulge the stylized trim on the roof a little. Nothing really bad or ugly looking though.

**I haven't gone for one yet because I just got my roof and trunk repainted, and my car already came with peeling black duct tape on the rear passenger door pillar post....it adds 5 hp; don't knock it!

Re: Rear seats, and speakers...

Will cutting the bent hook off of the center hold on the back seat impair my car's safety?

The only way that end of the hook could be reached is if the 2 side holds failed, and that has yet to happen, but I want to make sure before I make the Cut of no Return.

Unlike Tim "the toolman" Taylor, I don't believe in Cut Twice, Measure Never.
