Remember guys, it is a 1997 and several people have found the switch to become defective and not send the prime signal to the pump.

You guys know more than me about that. I never had to deal with a 97. I can only guess based on the problems I had with my 2000.

So if this is a prime suspect I would have to back you guys up

is there a way to tell which one it is? i need to get it fixed asap but want to address the reason it won't run first then tackle the secondary problem in the next couple of weeks. i would take it somewhere and have it looked at but I don't want to incur another expensive towing bill. thanks everyone for your help - i really appreciate it!

Your 1997 Blazer has a fuel pump test wire on it, it is the red wire near the Master cylinder. Send 12 volts from the battery to the wire and listen for the pump to wine. if it wine's, the pump is fine. Then you have all the classic signs of a bad ignition switch, very common on the 97's.
