2005 300 Rear Differential leak

I just purchased a used 2005 Chrysler 300. Inspection came back with leak in rear differential. Does anyone know if this is under warranty or what the costs of repair might be?

Congratulations on the purchase! I recently bought a used 2005 300 myself.

The 2005 Chrysler 300 comes with a 3yr/36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty, which is transferable to every owner. It also has a 7yr/70,000 mile powertrain warranty which is transferable to the second owner only for a $150.00 transfer fee. You will have to go to a dealer and pay them to transfer the 7/70 warranty. (Most don't know how to do it, but be persistent) If you have the Warranty book that came with the car, it is described somewhere in the book.

Another benefit that the 2005 model has over the 2006 models, is that it comes with a free rental vehicle during the 3/36 coverage. Even if you bring it into the dealer for an oil change, they have to provide you with a car to drive while it is at the dealership.

I would think that the differential leak would be covered under either warranty. Are you sure that it is the differential that is leaking and not the transmission? A very common problem on the 2005, and 2006 300C's is a leaking O-Ring in the transmission. I don't know what model you have, but if it is a 300C with the 5 speed transmission, have them check the O-Rings for leaks. They usually start leaking between 6,000 and 10,000 miles.
