2002 3.8 engine
I am trying to help a friend of mine that is really stuck and she cannot afford to throw sensor money at this car. The car dies after being started and then would restart and be fine. I am not sure how long this was going on but now it has died all together. Her brother claims to have replaced the ignition module and tested the coil packs. He is not to be trusted though... He also says its the map sensor now causing the problem but shes also unsure if the car has been losing power thinking it might be a fuel filter. After the car sat for a few days it restarted ran for a few miles then she backed up put it back in drive and died again and still is.
Any help would be great THANKS |

Re: 2002 3.8 engine
Got spark? Got injector pulse and fuel pressure, there are basic preliminary diagnostic steps.

Re: 2002 3.8 engine
Her brother claims it has all of it. I highly doubt it though. I am betting the pressure is low if any. I am leaning towards bad fuel filter but it wont fire at all. Even a clogged filter should get anough fule to it to make it stumble. Any other thoughts? I can't really give any more information being I haven't even seen the car yet. I was hoping that someone had a sim. issue and had suggestion.

Re: 2002 3.8 engine
Does it have the PCV valve made in the intake/plastic holder for pcv valve
Did he leave the o ring out of the PCV valve? Look around for a extra o ring. MT

Re: 2002 3.8 engine
Tell him to spray some carb cleaner into the intake then at least you know it is a fuel delivery problem of some kind, if it starts.
