new member-93 saturn help please

First, thanks for any help in advance. The car is a 93, I believe SL. It's my son's and not real sure of the model. 4 door with sohc throttle body fuel injection, if that helps.
Died on him the day before yesterday. By the time I got there, about an hour to pick him up, the car started. I drove it home, but after about a mile it started spitting and sputtering. I kept pumping the gas, and it would surge and I got most of the way home. Died again. Waited about 20 minutes and it restarted.
Because he doesn't take real good care of it, the first thing I did was change fuel filter, air filter, plugs, wires, oil and filter. Car started and ran good. Took it for a test drive. Ran good for about five miles and started doing the same thing. Got it home and checked the error codes. I'm having a little trouble understanding the flashes. After the 3 code 12's I get 3 flashes, a pause, and 4 more. Is that error code 34?
I cleaned and tested the coil pack. 8500 ohms resistance. If I clear the error codes, the car will start and run real good for a couple minutes, then start to die. If I pump and fiddle with the gas and keep it running until the service engine soon light comes on, it will run good until I shut it off. Then it won't start again unless I unhook the battery. Does anyone have any idea what to check?

Thanks,
Rick

Re: new member-93 saturn help please

code 34 relates to the map sensor - http://www.differentracing.com/tech_...es/dtc/34.html

can you please double check the code? this is not a very common code for saturns(32 is, 35 isn't rare ether)

check the connectior to the map sensor. the map sensor will be connented via a vacuum line to the throttle body.

I reset the system and ran it until I got the error code again like 7 times this evening. Always the same code. 3 flashes, pause, 4 flashes. Would the map sensor cause these symptoms?

Thanks,
Rick

Not sure, but it sounds like a bad fuel pump. Never had a bad one on my SL 1, but other cars that I've had a bad pump on, start up great, run a little while and then crap out. Let it sit, starts great, runs a few minutes and dies.

It was the map sensor. Replaced it and haven't had a problem in over a week. Thanks for the help.
