electronic speedometor faded

I'm considering picking up another used '91 aero. This one has the electronic speedo. . It is very faint and hardly discernable.

Does anyone know anything about this condition and its remedy?

TIA

You have a burned out light bulb behind the cluster

actually i don't think it's a bulb problem since the aerostar with the electronic display is a led type display.

first off i would check the dimmer circuit that controls the dash brightness on the headlight switch.
If thats not it then you have a dash circuit problem related to that circuit in the dash itself.

i'm sure if you do a little searching you can find a wiring diag for that model yr. If not then a store bought manual might such as chiltons or one of those.

I'll chk and see if i can come up with something but i'm sure you could too after searching

Laterz,

Re: electronic speedometor faded

I have had the E-cluster since 1990 and I have to replace the bulb behind the speedo every two years and it's always the same bulb just a normal CLB 194 peanut bulb.

When the bulb goes out, you can just see the numbers in the background and tell that the speedo is working, but you cannot tell just what it is reading because the numbers are too faint.

oops, my bad then.
I wasn't paying attention to the year you mentioned.
sorry bud

if the same bulb keeps burning out what condition is the bulb socket in? Does it fit fairly tight? or does it fit loosely?
Maybe if you check around you can find another bulb that is slightly higher in volt rating or a tid bit lower in watt rating....it won't be quite as bright but it may last longer.

Just food for thought

ehhh...not to sound like a smartallic but go to where that clicking sound is and you'll find your horn relay if the sound is comming from under the dash or somewhere other than the horn itself. If the horn itself is clicking then check voltages and make sure it's getting 12v. If not then repair the circuit. If you get 12v then replace the horn

But if the clicking sound is in fact the relay? just look for where the sound is comming from....usually they are under the hood on the drivers side fender area. Possibly under the dash somewhere on the drivers side near the fuse panel....possibly ON the fuse panel.
