96 grand am timming Chain

Ok i have a 96 Grand Am With 2.4L motor and i changed the water pump on it and the car runs alright but its like shes stalling and not working right. I think theres a possibility that the car could be off her timming, Could someone tell me how to check/set the timming chain to make sure that it is done right. Thanks in Advanced

Timing is actually easy! The link that is posted is good. Its easy to check once you get the timing chain cover off. The top 2 sprockets have an alignment hole 8mm to be exact, rotate the crankshaft clockwise until you line-up the key-way with a mark on the block. Should be the 12 o'clock position.
Now the upper sprockets alignment holes should be at the 6 o'clock position, if not rotate the crank 360. 2 rotations of the crank = 1 of the cam.
Slide a 8mm bolt or a 8mm pin thru the alignment holes,in the camshaft sprockets, to the hole in the cam tower. and the lower mark on the crank should be aligned also.
If that is the case, the engine is in time.

I had a timing chain jump when the chain tensioner broke apart. Took out the intake valves when the chain jumped.

Ken, absolutely right, my bad i forgot to add the drift punch into the timing holes.
