new hope for sohc.....mine at least. ka24e-t
okay so its 1:43 in the morning and im searching ebay aimlessly, then i see this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting so it gets me thinking, yeah i could just put a turbo on my sohc rather than bulding up a dohc and spending a ton of $$$. does anybody know if a sohc will match the hp/trq of the dohc? what all parts do i need? im sitting here looking at this guys setup and it seems really simple, im pretty sure i could do it for under $800. so what do you guys think? worth it? or should i just put in a ka24de-t? i dont see to many turbo ka's in general so im not to worred about standing out. |

Well depending on the condition of your motor you may or may not be looking at a rebuild anyway. If you got 170k miles on your KA then try to run 10psi of boost all your going to do is blow it past the rings. If you have/can find a fresh/low mile or rebuild your KA24E for cheap then go ahead and buy the parts that you will be needing if you are going to do a turbo install on the single cam anyway. If you do have to replace the motor, the DEs are easy to drop in and there is more performance upgrades for them anyway so that may be a way to go. What are you planning to do with the car?

my sohc has 110,000 miles on it, its is in good shape, im going to check compression once the trannie gets fixed but it should be good, i think i will have a solid platform, i dont need a track monster, i just want it to be able to go faster than alot of cars and suprize people when they try and impress me at stop lights, this car is a daily driver and i dont want it to be in the shop forever so sr and rb is out of the question, i just want some cheap reliable speed.
im looking for about 240-300hp, the turbo is obviosly not going to be the only thing i add but it will be the biggest addition, i think 280hp is not to high of a goal. |
