recharging refrigerant on 99 GASE
Air conditioning has not worked for some time now and so I bought a refrigerant measuring/recharging kit thinking that this was the most likely problem. I need to connect the kit's hose fitting to the low pressure service port, which I believe is at the very front of the car (it has a screw top covering it). The owner's manual has very little information on this so I was wondering if I am looking in the right place under the hood. Does anyone have experience with this? Is there a diagram of the AC system somewhere online? Should I even be trying this or should I shell out the bucks for a professional to do it?
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Re: recharging refrigerant on 99 GASE
Maybe you shouldn't since you don't seem to even know what your looking for. But since when has anyone done only the things they should. Basically according to GM the unknowledgeable need not do anything with the A/C but use it, thus why there's virtually no info on this in the manual.
The low pressure port you are looking for is covered with a blue cap with a letter "L" on it. Then basically follow the instructions on the bottle or with the kit. NOTE: The kit won't tell you this very important key item, if your system has leaked out to the point where the A/C compressor won't turn on and you haven't immediately recharged it then it is possible that air has seeped into the system. The A/C won't work well with air in it so it must be vacuumed out before recharging the system. In your case air may be in the system already and if so you should take it to shop so they can vacuum it out. You can tell if you need to do this after you hook up the gauge in the kit to the service port. If the pressure is close to 0 (approx 2 psi or less) then it's likely air is in the system. Hope this helps you get cool |

Thanks
Thanks for the advice. I was trying to connect the hose to the wrong port. It looks like my system does not need recharging since the gauge read about 33 psi as soon as I stuck it on there, so I guess there is some other problem. I really appreciate your help.
