Sticky valves

I have a 96 impreza and this morning while driving on the freeway, experienced loss of power. I wasn't able to go above 60 mph and would begin to lose speed even with the accelerator pushed all the way to the floor. Check engine light came on next. Repair shop told me I had sticky valves and need to spend $2500 to get them replaced. I called around to other subaru shops and thay all told me that sticky valves are extremely rare in imprezas. Anyone out there ever have this problem? If so, how much did you spend to fix them? Any help is very much appreciated!

That's one I've never heard of happening....

With everyone else, take it to another shop, one that's certified even?

I'd take it to a different shop...definately....
