Maxima vs. SE-R Spec V
I have an automatic Max with HAI and Ypipe. Well I raced one of my buddy's friend's Spec V. I think he has Intake and Exhaust. Not really sure, just know he has an exhaust.
Well it was from a 10 MPH roll, and he immediatly pulled. He could only put about 2 cars on me, but I was shocked. I didn't realize they were that quick. I flat out raped a Civic Si, and they are basically the same car. Civic has 160HP and the Sentra has 175, but damn does 15HP make that much of a difference?? They both weigh about the same as well. Something was wrong with my car though, cuz in 3rd gear at about 80 it made this nasty hesitation noise and was about to cut off it seemed like. So I backed off because I thought it was gonna explode. I really need a 5-spd. I've been debating about going that route for a long time now. At the moment I'm settled on staying auto, and just getting a tranny cooler and doing the Drop Resistor. But a VLSD 5-Spd sounds mighty nice though!!! Damn the decisions. |

Re: Maxima vs. SE-R Spec V
In all honesty, HP doesn't mean shit. Honda's make a lot of HP b/c they rev higher, and HP is simply a calculated number that rises with RPM's. Torque, on the other hand, is the actual measured force at the crankshaft, so cars with more torque pull harder. The nissan 2.5 has way more torque than the SI, so the HP figures can be a little confusing. The SI motor revs higher, though, so it pulls longer than the 2.5
I never did understand why HP is the primary comparison for cars. For most applications on the street, torque is far more predictive of how quick a car is.

Re: Maxima vs. SE-R Spec V
i raced a spec-v in my 95 5 speed and put the whoopin on him 3 times. he was bone stock and i had intake and cat-back. i'll never understand why the QR 2.5 redlines 600 rpm lower than the 3.5 and 3.0 maxima's. that was the determining factor in the race. he'd shift and i'd pull for that extra 5-600 rpm before i had to shift. keep in mind that a 4th gen is a good deal lighter than a 5th gen and nissans auto tranny's are pretty shitty.

Ya I agree with you on Nissan's autos suck. I wish I was 5spd, but this car was handed down too me.
In any event I may know a cause on why I didn't win. I was basically empty, just after the race my fuel light came on, and I THINK that's why my motor did that terrible hesitation noise, warning me not enough full to go full throttle. Well when my car is low on fuel it gets this slight hesitation at 2,500RPM and the car doesn't feel as responsive. I filled up today at the Exxon and the hesitation wasn't there and the power felt restored. Reason I can tell the power is there now, going up slight hills when the car is close to empty I have to make the tranny kick down a gear. Going up the same hill filled up, the car doesn't need too kick down just pulls nicely. I'm not sure if injectors are dirty, or maybe a fuel pump problem. All I know is maybe a rematch is in order, cuz I know I'm pushing a lot more TORQUE (happy thrasher?) then the QR. |
