Re: Heater Core For 98 Pontiac Grandam
a heater core is going to run you about 50 bucks if you buy it yourself maybe less. labor is what is going to kill you. but if you do it yourself your only spending 50 or so bucks. i had mine done by my stepfathers friend. he did it on the side at his work and charged us 200 for the whole job. but to get to it you have to take apart you whole dash.

Re: Heater Core For 98 Pontiac Grandam
Both of the responses to your question are more than correct. The heater core is cheap while the labor is very expensive. Get a manual for your car and replace it yourself. On this particular model you should be able to do it in a couple of hours. As stated the entire dash does not need to be pulled just the center. You really should do it soon since you are losing both coolant capacity and additional cooling ability, not to mention fall is just around the corner.

First time i've ever seen a heater core was in my 96 grand am, didn't have the slightest clue where it was and once i figured out how to get it out it took me about 2-3 hours and cost $20 something for the after market heater core + Coolent. Hardest part was putting the hoses back on in by the firewall. Remember to take out the center console it will make life alot easier. Its Under the dash in the middle, take out console, then theres some heater piping which is simple to remove then the heater core is in a box above that.

I paid $35 for a replacemnt metal (not the oem plastic one) and $150 labor at a local radiator shop. Go with a specialist and stay away from dealers and general service places for stuff like this. They don't want to do the work generally and try to discourage by quoting rediculous labor costs like the $700+ above.
