In answer to your question, yes, a 4th gen motor can be put into a 1st gen, but it takes some work. I've seen it done, but I know it cost lots of money. Secondly, you said that the donor motor is coming from a 97 Z28. That's not an LS1 powered car, it's an LT1. LS1's are in 98-02 Camaros and 97-present Corvettes...

Buy a Camaro if you're going to put a Chevy where a Pontiac engine was.
I wanted to do the same thing when I was 16, but decided against it and I'm happier now. Pontiac engines are rare to see now days and they can perform right up there with the LS1, it just takes effort. (A 97 would be an LT1 I think anyway). So please don't put a Chevy engine in a Pontiac car. Corporate power is great, but keep it out of a car that came with a Pontiac. (If you owned an 81 or newer I wouldn't care). If you want some hints up waking up that old Poncho just ask. (Remember in 1968 only the 427 Corvette and Hemi cars ran faster then the 1968 Firebird 400 Trans Am). Those old cars can run, especially with the right tuning. RAII FB running 12's on Redlines. Conforms to NHRA specs and is running on redline fiberglass tires at 110mph. In the New HPP. I know you have it and have read it This is a 'stock' 1968 Firebird. They are allowed to rejet polish manifolds and a few other tricks. This same day there was a Yenko Clone running 11's I think. Don't put a Corporate Motor (Chevy) in a Pontiac with a Pontiac. (Don't get me wrong, I love the LS1 engine they are godlike, but a Pontiac that came with a Pontiac should be all Pontiac). |
