Question LSD

Does the 240GL come with a LSD? If not, what kind of differential does it have?

no its a one legger. To test this try making the wheels spin. if you have 2 long tire mark then you have LSD or you can jack up the rear tires and turn one of the tires. If the turn the same way you have LSD if they turn the dont you have open diff

If you wanted to add an LSD Volvo uses a Dana 30 rear axle which is the same as Jeep use in the front of many of their 4x4's. They are available and most 4x4 or driveline shops can assist in finding the corect unit.

Re: LSD

100 200 300 700 series are all one "legger"
unless someone has tampered with it...

Myself im gonna buy a 360 this winter and weld the rear axel.. tada. DIFF! ;D

Gonna use it for drifting so it will be alright, then when the snow goes away, off it goes to the junkyard

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

The Volvo series all came with open differentials, like any car, but all series were available with either a factory installed or dealer installed limited slip. As mentioned in my earlier post the Jeep Dana 30 LSD or torque biased differential carriers used in their front axles are suitable for use in the Volvo differentials.

Re: LSD

Might be different in the US but if you want i can go out and film myself doing a burnout with my 740 and you will only see smoke comming from one wheel

No there is no difference, what you have is a standard open differential which transmits power to the wheel with the least traction. This is the purpose of a Limited slip differential which trnsmits power to the wheel with the greater traction.

The problem with a welded or solid differential is that it does not matter about wheel traction, both wheels will have equal power applied, in which case in any situation other than straight line acceleration one wheel will be rotaing faster than vehicle speed and the other wheel will be rotating slower than vehicle speed. In these situations neither wheel will be able to apply maximum grip.
