Where do you build?
We've probably hit on this subject before, but I'm curious to see (or hear about) where you build your models.
Here's a shot of my workroom. I recently moved from a tiny apartment into a house, and was able to put together a room just for modeling. It's great to finally have some space to work! The bench top is a hollow-core door from a home improvement store. I keep most of my tools in the red tool cabinet, and most of my paints and glues in the cabinet at the left of the shot (under the pachinko machine). You can just see the paint-covered edge of my paint booth, too. Where do you do most of your modeling? Show us! Matt ![]() |

This is the work station as it was just assembled a couple months ago in my new house. I finished this room in my basement strictly for hobby/display/slot cars etc. The bench is 10 feet long, and of course you can't see the top of it now as I have been modeling hard recently.

At the moment we're building our models in the dining room on the dining room table.

I like to model...
in my garage. The workbench was there when we moved in and I bought 2 large sheets of veneer from Home Depot to use as a modelling surface; it stays crowded as seen in this recent shot:

i don't have a pic of it, but we just renovated our house, so now that the laundry equipment has moved upstairs, i have a whole storage room in the basement to work with. i have 2 desks, a couple of shelves on the wall, a sink, and a few windows to let some air in when the fumes are flying.

I used to model in my room. It had a big table and shelves, but I moved downstairs to a smaller table for 2 reasons: 1.) I feared long term exposure to chemicals while I slept and 2.) downstairs is closer to the kitchen range hood. Stay tuned to see what I mean..
![]() That's my current workspace. Kinda cramped, but I like it since I have easier access to everything. ![]() ![]() That's my "spray booth" made from an old science project. I definitely need to build a new "spray booth" since this one is pretty dirty. The kitchen range hoods are rated at 1150 CPM or thereabouts. When airbrushing, vapor is nearly nonexistent, however when spraying Krylon and Tamiya the smell can get pretty heavy, which is why I own a double filter paint mask. The smell never leaves the kitchen, though, so its doing its job. My parents have never complained about any smell.. And finally, ideally I would like to have the type of desk found in cubicle office jobs. If you've never seen a cubicle, think of two tables that meet in a corner of a room, and you sit right where the two meet. That way, you have access to two tables worth of stuff with minimum effort. |

This is mine, it must be the forth desk i've used to do my modeling on but i'm happy with this now. Airbrushing and spraying is done in the shed.

When I move out (probably many years down the road) I want to decorate my entire garage with Ferrari things. And maybe one day I will have an actual 1:1 Ferrari to go with them. ![]() ![]()

Well I just took a quick picture of my workspace. It's upstairs and out of the way of everything. I really need to find a better place.
