Ok guys here goes, 03 Town and Country 3.8, wife drove teh van and came home shut off , all was ok at that time. Went out a half hour later and no crank no start. Checked the starter relay witha known good one and its clicking, I pulled lock cylinder wiped it down etc and put it back in, it cranked once started and shut off, so I was advised the ignition switch could be shorted, replaced that with a new mopar one, still same issue , no crank no start. I tried tapping the starter and nothing ( though I did tap and then try the key , working alone) All the lights come on fine radio etc work. The steering wheel is also not locking but may not be related I dont know. Any suggestions? VERY FRUSTRATED

Re: 03 Town and Country No crank no start
I would begin with the starter and work my way back. Try using a test light & make sure you have 12V at the solenoid when someone turns the key.
Check the cables for corrosion and make sure they are tight. Sometimes they might check good for continuity, but won't pass the amperage needed to crank the starter. Also, if the starter relay clicks, it probably means your ingition switch & lock cylinder are good. |

Re: 03 Town and Country No crank no start
I am loading a wiring diagram for you. If it does not load search for a post in this forum titled starter going. If the relay is clicking then more than likely the relay is good, but the voltage is not getting from the relay to the starter. You can pull the relay and turn it over to verify the pin numbers. When the relay is energized power goes from 30 to 87. You can jump the relay and if the rest of the circuit is good the starter should crank. There are problems with the IPM (factory name for underhood fuse bolck) having internal corrosion and corrosion underneath where the harnesses connect.

Re: 03 Town and Country No crank no start
Ok so I jumped the relay as you suggested and the starter spins just fine. Where do you suggest I go next? Pull the fuse block and look under it?? Im completly frustrated we just had a house fire and I need this van to work
thanks |

Re: 03 Town and Country No crank no start
1. Check if communication can be made with a scan tool with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
2. Check for trouble codes in the PCM. 3. Check powers and grounds to the PCM. 4. Check for 5.0 volts to the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) and the 8.0 volts to the Crankshaft sensor (CKP) or Camshaft sensor (CMP). If you are not able to talk to pcm with scanner you may need a pcm. very commen on these. or if you do not have five volts at the tps. Only other thing i have seen is a shorted crank sensor pulling down pcm volt not letting engine crank. PCM pcm ground starter relay for it to start. These can be tricky some times. You may need to bring it to a dealer. If it does need a pcm it will need to be programed.

Re: 03 Town and Country No crank no start
So I also found a test where you test the cluster and its showing multiple codes 100.1 100.3 100.4 100.5 100.6 400.1 does this help at all? Possible issue with cluster?

Re: 03 Town and Country No crank no start
This post from another forum will explain the codes you got from the cluster.
http://forum.chryslerminivan.net/sho...-quot-messages You could turn the ignition to the run position while jumping the relay and see if it will start. Make sure the parking brake is set and the transmission is in park when you try this. The van could start in gear then you would have more problems!!!! If you have a volt meter or a 12v test light you could check for power and ground at the other 2 female pins for the relay. 86 should be hot when the ing switch is turned to the start position. 85 is the ground for the relay and is supplied by the PCM. Be careful when probing the female connectors as you do not want to spread them. |
