Blazer rear hatch
i have a 2 door blazer with the tire on the back and the glass hatch wont open. It sounds as if the cylinoid isnt engaging the lock mechanism like it still makes the sound as if it is unlocking it but the sound is much weaker....is there a manual open anywhere? any suggestions on what to do? please help

Re: Blazer rear hatch
The solenoid you speak of has a plastic actuator. The actuator is what contacts the latch. I suspect your plastic actuator has broken.
There is an access hole toward the bottom inside of the tailgate in the plastic panel, under the carpet. However, the latch is at the top of the gate. With the actuator being broken, it will be a bitch to unlock from the access hole. I ended up drilling holes in the plastic panel at the top of the tailgate until I was able to access the latch with a screwdriver. After getting the solenoid and actuator out, I fabricated a metal replacement actuator and reassembled. Then patched plastic panel with plastic epoxy and painted to match. (You can also, obviously, buy the replacement solenoid with actuator. But it will still be plastic, and will eventually break again.) Regards |

Re: Blazer rear hatch
I had this problem also and has been covered on this site before. Your actuator's plastic clip is most likely broken. If your interior panel has the screws in place on each end holding it in place, its impossible to remove it from the inside without destroying it. There is a small access hole under the carpeted insert that you can use to access the latch. Once you get it open, remove both tail gate panels. The clip itself is discontinued and replacing it with a used one is just asking for the same problem again. Go to the dealer and purchase the updated actuator for $70. It has a revised clip that should not break off. You could also custom fab something on your own.
