3rd Gen Factory Paint Problems

Anybody had the paint on your third gen peel of like crazy? I'm sure there are a lot of you who have because it was a widespread problem with GM cars made in the mid 80's to early 90's. My car is looking terrible right now because of the paint peel on the roof, trunk, and the right side panel. It peels quicker when the intense summer sun hits it. It's a factory paint defect, and GM is supposed to fix it for you by law, but they stopped after a 5 year "warranty" that they had. I'm going to sue GM in small claims court to get them to pay for a repaint. But I just want to know how many of you have the same problem. If there is a handful of us we can all threaten to sue, and urge them to settle out of court.
For more info about GM paint problems see these sites:

I have a lot more info if you would like it.

Re: 3rd Gen Factory Paint Problems

I very rarely see any half decent 3rd gens with the original paint on them.. But because of the age of your car.. (12 to 22 years old) Your gonna have a REAL hard time gettin' anything out of GM.. I know about a year or so, there was a big thing on the news about a group of people protesting and shit about gettin' the dealer to repaint all their pealed vehicles.. Those vehicles were quite a bit newer and I dont think any of em' got shit..

I think at the end of 87 they closed down the norwood plant. IT was the only place that sprayed good paint on thirdgens. The van nuys plant sucked ass because of the smog nazis in cali and any thirdgen after norwood closed down is bound to have peeling paint.

Re: 3rd Gen Factory Paint Problems

GM would tell you that the paint has to be of a certain color in order for it to fade the right amount so they can repaint it under warranty, and while you tried to figure out what the heck that meant, they would kick you in the knee and run away...

Re: 3rd Gen Factory Paint Problems

I had a defect in the paint on my 96, luckily it was still under warranty at the time and GM took care of it. My car is silver, the defect looked like scratches in the paint.

Yea.. i know. I have talked to them several times and sent several dealers letters with pictures. And that's basically what they did. I'm going to compile all my documents and stuff and hope the judge sees it my way.
