Gary (or anyone)... Rebound setting on my new konis? New springs?

Ok... got the new shocks, hubs, and speedo sensor in today... thanks Gary Going through things I noticed the rear shocks are approx. 1.5" longer than the fronts. Does the affect which spring you use? Based on the part numbers it looks like the free length and inner diameter are the same, only the spring rate is different. I'm buying 550lb fronts and going to move the fronts to the rear... that's ok right?

Also, upon reading the info on the shocks there are 4 rebound settings, a zero point, then 3 "clicks" to the right (clockwise).

I know jack shit about shock tuning so what do I put these on if I'm running 550lb fronts and 350lb rears?

Thanks,
Brian

Re: Gary (or anyone)... Rebound setting on my new konis? New springs?

Here's Gary's response on shock setting for anyone curious:

Quote:
I would set the REAR shocks at full stiff rebound to keep the back of the car from raising up under breaking...This keeps the rear end down and weight transfer to the front at a min under hand breaking...If you get any wheel hop at all then go the other way one click at a time....
Set the front ones in the middle for starters...You want the car to squat or raise up in the front when you pick up the throttle...This will transfer weight to the rear tires...If the car picks up a bad push on exit ( all of this is after you put the correct springs under the car ) you will have to put a click of rebound back into the fronts to slow down the weight transfer....Keep in mind this is just a starting point
This is what I'll be starting with along w/ the new springs... now I just have to hunt down a rear swaybar.

Re: Gary (or anyone)... Rebound setting on my new konis? New springs?

Brian;
That's exactly the same rebound setting I set up on the shocks. Gary's logic made good sense to me, and sounded like a good starting point.
As for the shock lengths, my rears are longer than the front too. I assume the free spring length is 10". Look at where the threaded collar is held on the shock body by the c-clip. In the rear the collar seats against the c-clip that is 3" lower on the shock body than on the front shock. I think this is how the longer shock is accomodated.
Hope that makes sense.

Re: Gary (or anyone)... Rebound setting on my new konis? New springs?

I didn't take the spring all the way off the shcok body to adjust the rebound. I loosened un the nut on the collar until the spring was free (no compression). I used a small screw driver to pop of the dust cap. I could get my finger on the button, and make the needed adjustment by rotating the shaft of the shock.
This saves a little time if you already have the springs on the shocks (like if you want to do it at the track). It is easier to make the adjustment with the spring off the shock.
