DIC (Driver information center)

Just wondering if anyone new anything about the LCD DIC (driver information center display). Is there two light bulbs behind it possibly or is it all just a LCD display. The one in my 2001 gtp seems to be really dark on the left side. About half way until it gets past the little car symbol. Just wondering if there was anything i could do it balance it out or do i need to start looking for a replacement. thanks to anyone that has an incite on this problem.

Thumbs up Re: DIC (Driver information center)

Just to let everyone know that since i didnt get any feed back to the post, I took the the dash apart and took the DIC (driver information center) apart. There are a total of 5 small light bulbs behind the display. They are mawell type bulbs the just turn in and were pc119 they ran 1.29 a piece at the local auto parts shop. I did have to go to several before I found them, but if you take the time and find them its a very simple fix to what I would assume the dealer would charge and arm and leg to fix.

3 are behind the main screen
1 behind the trac control
1 behind the low trac indicator

To get to the lights bulbs you must remove the plastic of the dash by removing 2 screws directly underneath the drivers side and remove the the plastic cover of the lower dash, the carpet on that piiece can stay attached.

The next step is to remove the plastic trim on the dash, which is just held into place by snaps, so just pull gently.

When that is removed you can get to the DIC and that is also just held into place with snaps so just pull that out and disconnect it on the back side. There is a face plate on the DIC that is easily removed. After the face plate is removed you will have to take the two screws that you can see now. With the screws removed you can then tilt and pull the front half out of the inclosure, it still will have cables running to the other half so dont pull to hard or expect the whole front half to just fall out. The light bulbs are the blue items sticking up. they twist out after one gentle lift the safty tabs up at the bottom close to the circut board.

The whole job is probably less than 30 mins and can safe you big bucks, because the dealer could easily say you need a new DIC and charge you big bucks for that.

Re: DIC (Driver information center)

GM can't seem to figure out that the more they outsource, the more problems they have. You have virtually no control of manufacturing and quality when someone else builds it. Between that and sending all the manufacturing to China and Mexico, they are cutting their own customer base when eliminating US jobs (the Mexican & Chinese workers can't afford a $50k car/truck/suv on their $50/day wages), and their quality has suffered as well. When will the Big 3 wake up and smell the steaming pile they are leaving on the American public?
