I found this on the SCC site. This is a great resource for those of you thinking about engine swaps, or just curious about what your options are.

have you guys heard people are starting to take the b20 engine from the honda CRV and drop it into civics. That will be some mean horsepower if people spend the time to dyno it.

The B20Z in a Civic represents a monster combination, and yes, there are some that have done it. I know a guy that is in the process of doing this conversion (into a '97 CIvic DX). It doesn't make all that much hp (less than an Si), but the beauty of this is that this engine has a long stroke and is geared for torque. I haven't seen any performance stats, but you can bet that Civics with this engine will be quick.

how much are the b20 engines
they only give about 140-150hp which isnt much from the civic ex

if i were to do a swap on a civic i kno it would cost around 4-5g's and if a b18c would cost about a grand more than i would go for that over the b20.

sure u get torque but the engine was designed for an SUV not a performance car.

Ah, no way less than that.. unless you take your car to a shop where they absolutely ream you with the price of the swap.

The B20Z2 runs around $1,000. If you do the work yourself, you don't even need a lift to do it!! An elaborate set-up of jacking up the front end to make room to remove the stock engine from underneath and then to replace it with the new motor is all you need to do. It will cost you.. well the engine, plus a few gaskets and other odds and ends, and of course a good chuck of time, but nowhere near the 4 to 5 thousand mark.

why so cheap?

whenever i see prices for the b16 or b18 or even the h22a theyre always in the 4-5k mark

i guess its cause theyre not in demand like the others

The basic reason? To date, the B16A1, the B18C1, and the H22A_ (I think 4), are all sought after by aftermarket tuners because they are VTEC. The B20Z2 is non-VTEC. So, coupled with supply and demand (as you said), because the engine is non-VTEC, it literally costs a fraction of the cost of the other engines you mentioned. But it's simpler tuning does of course permit the engine to make all that low end torque, which supercharged will certainly get you up to speed very quickly.. that is not to say that it won't fly naturally aspirated - because it will.

yea, I ddue i know did it. He has it bolted on a Integra LS tranny, he said that 5th gear has the RPM up a little to high for him, he said that a GSR 5th gear would be better.

You can put a EX V-tec head on it (both SOHC, I think think teh B20Z is at least), then you have a B20Z V-Tec. Then you have Torque and HP.

Re: Engine Swapping!!

i've been b18c1's going for 10k with out shipping, i do not know about b18c5. the b18c1 i saw included the tranny and i think they were modified because they reported near 300 hp.. if your willing to spend a lot of money i would recommend going with the frankinstien setup. b20 block with a b18 head and add a turbo. you can reach near 400 hp if everything is done right and tuned with other aftermarket parts. i've seen some of those setups run in 12' int he 1/4 with out nitrous.

You are smoking crack. $10K+shipping for a GS-R motor? No offense but stick with informing people about Evo's and not hondas.
To get a ITR engine (b18c5) swapped in it would cost you around $5000 (maybe a couple hundred more) including paying for install. You can get the engine for $4000 at www.passwordjdm.com
