how much money will this take from me and how much power will i get from it?

i work at a car dealership and encounter lots of cars that i can aquire for dirt cheap. a person recently traded in their 88 civic dx hatchback(5 spd not the shitty 4 spd) and i can buy it for 300 dollars. this car is slow and i don't want that. what i would like to do is build a frankenstein b series motor but since i owna nan infiniti i really only know nissans. the motor i have in mind is the b20(crv) block and internals exc. the crank. i would source the crank from a b17(1st gen gsr) and the head froma b16. the reasoning i would like to do this is i want the 2 liter's displacement, the 1.7's wind up and the bullet proof head of the 1.6. i have been told that all/most b series components are compatible with eachother so i figure this will work. but as the topic stated how much power will i get and how much money will it cost me?

That's a sweet plan, kyle. I don't really know about that plan, i.e. how much power it will get you.. but I'd think that you should be able to get in the neighborhood of 200 horsepower to the crank (without much trouble ). It will cost you some. You will ideally want custom pistons and rods (let me know if you need a good source for these), which should cost you perhaps $1K to $1,200, the block should cost you a little over a grand, the head should be anywhere from $500 to $800 (I'd recommend the B18C head as well, though it will probably cost you a little more than a B16 head) and the crank you may be looking at about $300 to get your hands on one. It's not a cheap plan, but doing it the right way usually will cost you. I have to check a guide on swapping (which I unfortunately don't have with me), but you may need an aftermarket mounting kit to put a B series into your new Civic.

great idea bro, that civic HB will fly...but here's some stuff you should think about..

1. The b20 is the perfect candidate, but don't get the 1.7 crank. THe only reason to get the crank is for destroking it to 1.8L and getting a near perfect r/s ratio for turbocharging....That would destroy the point of a 2.0L vtec motor, trust me, the b20 r/s ratio is not as bad as people think( it's bad, but the block can handle more than you think)...

2. get some vtec pistons(OEM has none, so either get some JE's or Wiseco)...might as well bump that compression while you're at it.

3. at least shotpeen your rods for continuous 8000rpm usage.

4. if built right, you can make 200+whp with good aftermarket cams...
