ECM bad on 5th gens?
Hey, I just bought my 2001 Maxima a couple weeks ago, and just yesterday, it started stalling. Every start, every time, after starting, it would just idle down to nothing and die. So I took it to my favorite mechanic, who thought it was probably a relay module, but found out that the ECM (emissions control module?) was frying the relay, so we have to have a new ECM put in. The whole thing's gonna run me about $1100, but I want to know, have you all had this problem? He told me that the place he bought the ECM from said they sell a lot of them, making him wonder if it's a common problem. Now the other question is, he thought that the ECM would be covered under a 10 year, 100,000 mile emissions warrantee requiered by the state. How can I find this out? Thanks guys.

Ecm's are not as common , I have see MAF ( Mass Air Flow) Sensors cause a condition like you were explaining. I was going to tell you to unplug it and see if it idles. Anyway ECM warranty is under Emissions with is 5yr 80k miles. GL..

Edit: Oh, and if I would have had it at home, I could have tried something like unplugging the MAF, but I actually think my tech did that. He actually put in a new one, but I don't think that worked. That's why he figured out it was the ECM. And I trust these guys, I've done business with them for a while, and they know me pretty well. They're really honest with me, and don't recommend unneeded crap.
