Who Knows About TPS
Hi just wondering if anybody could help me out with a problem on a 1996 Geo Tracker. My TPS acts like its dying. Sometimes it works and the car runs good, no complaints. But sometimes it will short out or something. When that happens it lacks power and acts like its wants to die, rpm falls to around 500, and it hesitates really bad. It took me a little while, and a complete tune up to figure out that if i cleaned out the TPS it would go back to running good, but only for a little while. Does anyone know if TPS are cleanable/ repairable? Its almost $200 for a new one at autozone. Or any other suggestions would be helpfull too.

Re: Who Knows About TPS
I hope you didn't clean it with WD-40 or similar. These are sticky lubricants and will just gunk up again. Try an electronics cleaner that evaporates clean and dry.
Otherwise you are probably going to have to bite the bullet.

Re: Who Knows About TPS
Nope, used electronics cleaner. But that as it turns out isnt the problem. I went out and got a brand new TPS, put it in, and no change. But now my check engine light is on.
