2004 auto trans fluid level how to check it?

I have a 2004 Aveo with an automatic trans. How do you check the fluid level when it is HOT. Do you leave the engine running or NOT running. I do not have an owners manual and I searched this site and found no answer.

Does anybody know or would someone be so kind as to check their owners manual and post back?

Thanks!

Its the red dipstick under hood. Check while running and hot.

It is important to have an owners manual for specifics, but most GM transmissions you would want to check with the engine at operating temperature, after you have moved the shifter through the gear ganges from Park to Low and back, and then check it in park. Temperature is very important. The fluid level will be different on a cold engine.

Auto or std transmission?
Depending on transmission if no dip stick under the hood some have to be checked from the underside.
Some have check plug on the end of right hand axle housing plug.
Also fluid type has been change on a lot of newer ones.
And as Mike said tempt and checking procedure should be followed.

Sometimes the owners manual ships the hard to check ones or tells you to go to the dealer to get it checked.
Best to get a factory repair manual or a All Dat sub on it.
AZ site may have some info or a lot of public libary has some repair info.
