2005 Matrix
The car makes a LOUD ticking noise in a cold engine for about 1-2 minutes. Just had oil change and clean oil still. Engine almost sounds diesel Does this car have a oil pump?

Re: 2005 Matrix
All engines have oil pumps of some sort. The tapping noise could be a hydraulically adjusted lifter that is not keeping pressure overnight, or could be a sticking valve lifter or weak valve spring. Colder weather may exacerbate this as the oil takes a bit longer to pump in and warm up. If the car is still under the powertrain warranty, I'd have the dealer check it out first.
If not, then I'd first suggest an engine cleaner such as Seafoam to help dissolve any built up sludge or varnish. 2 cans...one in the gas tank and one split between the oil and main vacuum line (use the sticky at the top of the forum for complete instructions). Hope this helps!

Re: 2005 Matrix
Thanks so much for your answer. I will check about the warranty. Of course now the car sounds great even when cold in the morning. No man in my house or family has heard the sounds. Figures!!! WB
