engine missing? spark plug problem? please help!
My engine had been sporadically missing, so I finally decided to chang my rear three spark plugs because I don't even know when the last time they were changed was. Took them out - they were really bad (had about 1.4 - 1.6 mm gaps and were all corroded and stuff.
Anyways, to cut a long story short. Over the last 3 days I have taken my engine apart and back together 5 times now. After replacing the crappy old plugs for new ones my engine was missing even worse. Constant missing - could tell one of plugs wasn't firing. It is pretty much running on 5 cylinders. Replaced the spark plug cables, same thing. Changed the spark plugs out for new, new spark plugs... same thing. Noticed that one of my coils was cracked and gunky and throwing weird sparks. Replaced that today, figured that would fix it for sure... still not firing. I have no idea what to do now. My car was running better before I replaced everything. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you. |

Do you know which cylinder is missing? (IE: unplug the spark plug wires from the coil-pack until you find one that isn't making a difference to the idle).
Go through the standard Air/Fuel/Spark diagnostic... It might not be a lack of spark but a clogged injector for all you know. |

Re: engine missing? spark plug problem? please help!
Well - I used a multi-meter to check for error codes -- and from what i can tell, it is spitting out error code 41 at me. This shows that the injector is what is sending off the error. The remedy says to "check coil resistance". I am guessing that means to check the resistance of each injector to see if it is within acceptable limits and see if it is working. Now i just wish i knew how to do that. I don't even know where they are exaclty. ugh
btw, first i used some autolite double platinum, then some NKG Iridiums. I was skeptical about those choice of plugs as well, but everywhere I look, they say that both are acceptable for the car. |

Injectors:
http://www.stealth316.com/2-injectors.htm http://www.stealth316.com/2-injectortypes.htm The spark plugs should be fine... I had both NGK double plat and the iridium ones in before... Couldn't tell the difference to tell you the truth |

Re: engine missing? spark plug problem? please help!
well -- i fixed it everyone -- guess what it was. After replacing the spark plugs the first time, I must have accidentally disconnected one of the injector wire harness things. I was looking at it this morning and realized that one was loose... and after closer inspection noticed it wasn't even connected... yea i'm an idiot... oh well. My car is running nice and smooth now though. Thank you to everyone that had advice.
