Jensen Amp

Hello, I just got some speakers for my honda. I ordered 2 10' American Bass Subs. The RMS power on the speakers is 150 watts. I was looking to run them with a Jensen amp. The amp can be bridged to run 2x150 RMS (so the box says). Would this amp be a good buy? Also, will the gauge wire (10 or 8) make any differant in running the amp?

Thanks for any info!

i would steer far from anything jensen, they are well overrated in the descriptions, trust me, i learned the hard way. i had ordered the 800w Max amp when i first got started, tested it and it was only rated around 400max and like 180 rms. So go for something a lil better then those. Sony makes a nice amp, as do Rockford Fosgate, and Hifonics.

And yes thicker guage wire does make a difference, i would run the thicker guage wire to help keep the voltage constant across the path of the wire, plus if you ever upgrade your stuff and go with a more powerful amp which needs the thicker wire, then you wont need to re-run the wires again.

When was this? How did you "test" your amp?

Also yes, I dont like to use power wire smaller then 8 guage ~ the bigger the wire the easier it will be for power to flow to your amp. Depending on how much the amp is I would say pick it up!

So you are saying to go with the Jensen amp? It would be about $140 for the Jensen 400 watt amp (150x2 RMS). Are the speakers I got )American Bass) any good? Has anyone ever heard of them?

Thanks!

No American Bass is not considered to be any good in my opinion and most others... But yes, I would say go for it ~ do you have the model number for the amp?

I have that Jenson Amp. The amp I had before that was an Alpine V12. I heard lots of bad things about Jenson, but over all it was pretty good. Mind you nothing compared to the Alpine amp I had, but of course, it was alot cheaper. One thing though, the Jenson amp overheated much easier than my alpine.

I may be wrong because im not upto date with Alpine, but doesnt the V12 amp have a fan, and the Jensen does not ~ which would make for an obvious reason as to why it would overheat more often. Yes?

yeah, it did have a built in fan. I guess I can't really compare the two anyway. It just seemed the Jenson amp seemed kinda crappy compared to the (much more expensive) alpine amp.

i didnt test the amp myself, it came with one of those cards saying it was tested and those were the results, just like if you get a new RF amp, it comes with that slip saying saying what it puts out.

What amp and when was this ~ because I do not recall in recent history of Jensen inserting "birth specs" ...

Lightbulb

I did end up getting a Jensen amp, But I did not get the "400" watt amp that I posted about earlier. I endud up getting the "600" watt amp...

http://www.jensen.com/mobile/non/amps/xa4150.asp

I figured for the Extra $30, It was a better idea to get the higher power one. Now, since it is listed as a 2x200 (RMS) watt amp, and my speakers are only 150 RMS, will the amp overpower them even if I keep the gain down on the amp? Also, If I decided to get only 1 sub, would I be able to bridge the amp even more and get 400x1 even though that option is not listed?

Thanks!

Hrm.. The Jensen amps I've had are good... They hit allright, but I've never had experience with another brand. I have an XA21something, the 500Wx2 amp. I also have a really old 100Wx2 powering my highs. Right now I have a box and amprack being built so I'll have my final (and best) setup - Audiobahn A2300HCX + 3 12" JL Audio W6's. That ought to sound good - oh, and I have a Boston Acoustic 300W waiting to power the highs...

No you can not bridge a 4 channel amplifier down to one channel. And so long as you dont mess around with the gain you shouldn't overpower your speakers.
