Tranny oil temperature gage?

I have just recently purchased an '06 Grand Prix, 3.8 liter 3800 sieres III. I absolutely love the car so far. I have never had a gage for the transmission oil temperature before. What temperature range should the oil be in? I have noticed that it will run anywhere from 140* to 195* depending on the situation. Any answers you can provide will be of great help.

Re: Tranny oil temperature gage?

Do you mean the readout you get on the Driver Information Center (DIC) or does yours have a gauge? The temperature reading is normal.

Yes, it is a read-out on the DIC. Thanks for your quick response. On another note, what is the popular opinion on cold air intakes? Are they worth the money and does it affect your MAF sensor? I have seen them range in price from $50 bucks to almost $300. I'm looking to improve my gas mileage, I travel mostly highway, and gain a little performance.

Re: Tranny oil temperature gage?

get a good one if you get one. The lesser expensive ones with reusable filters can gum up MAF sensors which have been known to cause all sorts of issues including torque converter lock-up indecision in overdrive. Not to mention a replacement MAF filter can run 300+ at the dealer. If your car is stock with no mods, I would probably leave it with the drop in paper filter and replace it regularily.
