Question 96 Cavi Gas Gauge

I have NO idea how to fix the gas gauge on mi wife's 1996 Chevy Cavalier. Do I have to replace the CLUSTER or is it something else? The problem I had is that I ran out of gas because the damn thing said it had a little over the Empty mark, so on my way to the Gas Station it started bogging and died as soon as I added gas it started right up though

Re: 96 Cavi Gas Gauge

It's probably in the sender, which requires you to drop the tank and spend several hundred dollars on a new module... running below 1/4 tank will cause the pump to go out much sooner, so if I were you, just tell her to refill at 1/4 tank. GM senders are usually off a bit... nothing to worry about if you let it go.
