New rebuild installed

Well it took six hours but I have my rebuilt 1.0L installed. I think I'm
getting too old for this. I cant move today from crawling under that
Metro half the day.

But I did run into a problem. When I tried to switch over my crank
timing belt gear it wouldnt come off. I covered the gear but not
good enough and messed up the the teeth. So what are my options on
finding another one for my 94? The top timing belt gear has two notches and
i'm not sure what one to use to get my timing correct. Not sure why
they would make it with two notches. Someone mentioned to look on
the back for wear in one of the notches.

Also, can the distributor be put on backwards or incorrectly? I
seems to be seated good but this concerns me.

I pulled just the engine and we had a hard time seperating it from
the tranny because we didnt remove the access plate for the
flywheel/belhousing. Stupid me

Re: New rebuild installed

On the top timing belt gear with two notches i think the 60 is for the 3 cyl and 80 is for the 4 cyl.

You might be able to clean up the Crankshaft Timing Gear with a small file.

I don't think the distributor can be put on backwards and #1 should be marked on the distributor cap.

Re: New rebuild installed

yea I had that problem when I redid my engine and the book said to use the 80, but it was wrong. the best theng to so is set the #1 piston to tdc ( compression or air coming out). check the gear should be at 60 aligned with the v notch. check the rotor on the cap should be pointed at #1. if not fix making sure the crank stays in line. most junk yards have the crank pully but you can't use a 95 or abouve they use a 5 bolt pully and yours uses a four or vice verses.
