accent flooding

my 2000 hyundai accent is flooding,rough idle,black smoke,scanner says coolant temp sensor could this really make her work so bad ,will shut off without a little pedal,cant make it up hills so stuck without a long tow

No, it's not the coolant sensor. Probably 2 different problems not related.

Check oil, to see if it has gasoline present with the odor test. Check cylinder compression, it's often bad piston rings. Have you used injector cleaner? Don't use.

Check also antifreeze color. If it's brown, it's bad sign.

Check upstream oxygen sensor, injectors, MAF & MAP sensor, PCM, sparks, vaccum leak, IAT.

It can be a lot of things that cause this common problem.
