I was searching for a good clutch kit to order for an upcoming project.
Project is a 99 gsx body with a 1g block.
I just wanna double check before I order, I was leaning toward the exedy setup, and I need to order this(or any kit) for a 1g eclipse correct? SInce it's going on a 1g engine...
Reason I ask is, im so used to shopping online or my rs haha, I was looking closely at these different clutch kits, but I was signed into the website under my 97 rs, and realized, I need to ask to make sure when I by I need to enter in all of the info for a 1g eclipse when prompted to enter my make and model right?

Doesn't matter. A clutch kit will be the same for 90-99 4g63 motors. Which Exedy kit are you looking at getting?

Just make sure you get the right flywheel. 6 bolt/7bolt

well, this one is the one i was looking at...which would go with the exedy flywheel they offer....
http://www.exedyusa.com/race/Clutch_Specifications
unless you can suggest a better setup for me...
my goal is to get as much out of it on pump gas and keeping everything legal, but with a lot of track use(in other words, i gotta drive it to the track lol)

It just gave me a blank page and I had to fill in the vehicle details and it showed me all options available. :dunno: Which model exactly were you looking at? Just be sure you get the 6 bolt flywheel if your going with the combo deal.

oops.
sorry about that haha.
To be specific, its a 99 gsx, and the clutch I was looking at was the stage 2 cerametallic...
I can't find any of the specs like clamp load or anything, but this particular clutch sais that its great for highly modified engines, and most importantly, awd...wish I could see soem specs though...
Know of any clutches that are eclipse friendly and good for awd?

I've always run ACTs with organic discs.

you always use them? as in, u have to keep replacing them? lol, or as in, youve used them in more than car or...
and i have heard quite often that act is pretty reliable, and good for servicing if need be.
so which of these might you suggest?

nice....i like that
very reputable, i imagine getting that clutch and the ACT flywheel would be my best bet, seems like i heard that when installing the two components u have to have clutch kit made by the same maker as the flywheel...(correct me if im wrong please)but yeah ill prob get the lighter one of the 2 bc i dont care too much about a rumbling engine since itll mainly be track used lol
*just for anyone whos reading this post, i drive a 97 rs now, i replaced the clutch with a clutch and flywheel kit for it about 5 months ago...the make was LUK and it does its job no doubt about it...after i broke it in(which didnt take long, but boy do i love it when u have a new flywheel and the car feels torquey as hell!) ive gotten on it as hard as she will go...hand its nowhere near slipping, nice setup, would reccomend

ALSO*
I had my transmission rebuilt and reconditioned 5 months ago by AAMCO, which is pretty reputable...
Well 2 days ago it stopped going into gear right, and started making grinding noises so, I took it back to them and they reluctantly honored thier warrantly, they promised free labor to fix it again, except maybe a few parts i might have to purchase but other than that, im not going to argue
the manager called today and told me that he hadnt pulled the tranny yet but that my engine wasnt meant to be turbocharged, and that it was putting stress on the tranny...lol
just thought id share that =)
but, the clutch kit works great though, no probs there

boostjunkie333

my rs....my daily driver. i had the transmission professionally reconditioned a few months ago...and it wont go into gear correctly now lol
so long stry short, they agreed to rebuild again for free in honor of the warranty
which i mean, it looks shady...but...culd have just been nobodys fault
but hey, if they wanna keep rebuilding my tranny for free...not gonna argue with that:screwy:

I know its a little off topic but I have never had any tranny problems, or heard of many who have. Even pushin 400whp so I would say they didn't do something right.

UPDATE
so i JUST got a call from the aamco man, and he told me, that apparently a bushing failed, and the debris from the broken bearing damned up the flow of oil and that its an easy fix, but asked if i would rather have him put in a tranny from a turbo model of the 2g, and asked me if knew if the clutrch would work with the turbo model...
what do you guys think?? need some advice

Totally different engine and tranny. A 4g63 tranny will NOT work in your car.

but yeah, today i just went ahead and got a brand new trans its being put on now, the new trans is cheaper than it would have cost to fix the old one again..

"Free" is relative. I think my time and frustration are worth something, so very little is "free" when it comes to people screwing up.

If the guy installing the tranny didn't know such an extreme difference between a 420a and 4g63 tranny then there's no way in hell I would be letting him even put his hands on a brand new tranny... His work may be free, but the new tranny wasn't. Just remember that if something break on this one too dude... :2cents:
You can swap the tranny yourself without a lift. It could probably be done in a good afternoon with using a jack and some blocks. That's how I did mine.
