Cam Position Sensor, 00 ZX2

Where is this little bugger?? I have read posts that it is located under the fuel rail??? If it is I don't see it....is it below the intake manifold as well or am I missing the location entierly? I have purchased a new sensor so I know what it looks like. I have the dreaded p0340 code, so my first attempt will be to replace the sensor and check all the wiring. Also, what would cause oil to build up in the spark plug recesses in the head? (between the valve covers) and is that an easy fix? (new valve cover gaskets perhaps).

Would anyone have any of those nifty links to pictures of the CPS replacement procedure?

well, i just have to say.....i tend to jump to wrong conclusions...especially when i buy a used car with 186,000 miles and the service engine soon light is inop....and i read all the doom and gloom posts about crank walk, timing being off and all that other bad stuff....i found the sensor....duhhhh ...right at the front of the engine...apparently i was reading posts for other motors that said it was under the fuel rail, i've been up around and over every inch of that engine and bet i looked at it 100 times...to make a long story short...the cps sensor was actually BROKEN in half, and had been glued back together. Apparently the service engine soon light had been on soooo long that the bulb burned out. I replaced the sensor...BANG...the code can be cleared AND DOES NOT COME BACK, so far (it used to come back every time I cleared it and restarted the car)....the engine does not "stumble" or "hesitate" off idle anymore.....much more power.....I did not get much feed back other than to check the bulb, but thanks to this great place anyway because there is a wealth of information for the (auto) educated person. I was able to do all this without even having a manual to refer to. Thanks automotiveforums.com!

If I had seen your CPS issue I would have suggested more then just to check it, but it seems replacing it put you on the right bath to fixing something else.

Mine just came on too and when I checked the timing belt some of the rubber teeth were missing or falling off. Guess what I'll be changing shortly!
