Sry not too sure where to post this so i'll start here. Im looking into buying a 97 eclipse that currently has a blown engine. My question is, whats gonna be a good engine to swap it out with? Yea I know I could always go with the factory re-built replacement but I want a little umph. Any ideas would be MUCHLY appreciated thank you!

If you have a GSX/GST you have to stick with the 4g63 (pretty much only option)
If you have a RS/GS you have to stick with the 420a

Im pretty sure its probably an rs/gs. Now I guess my question is what about throwing a turbo into the mix?

Turbo will run you at least $1000+ if you build a kit yourself. Premade kits are around $2000+. Look in the members projects section and you'll see my turbo thread which I did myself. It takes time, work, and money and on a stock block can only boost at ~10psi tops. It also depends on the condition of the motor right now too. I would not boost a motor if it's in bad condition. Compression test is the key to that.

Lots of people add turbos to the 420a motor. But like Dave said it cost money and time. If you have to rebuild the motor anyways and plan on boosting it go ahead and get forged pistons and rods. This will only run you another 500 than a regular rebuild but will be able to take the abuse a turbo motor sees.

Do a search around on this site for "420a turbo" and you'll find a lot of useful information from a bunch of members. Let us know if you have nay other questions.

here is a question, are there any diff from the 1g 4g63t motors and 2g. other than 6 bolt or 7 bolt. i have a 93 gs right now and was toying with the idea of swaping it for a 4g63t but, if im going to do an engine swap i jus as well do it in a 2g. As there are more mods for the 2g.

Main difference is the 6 bolt and 7 bolt motors. Basically still the same thing but with some small differences. You would want to go with a 1G 6-bolt if you're going to do that. The head is made to flow better than than any 2G model.

And you wont have to worry about CW.

1g motor the rods are better 2g pistons are better. 1g head bigger intake runners. 2g freer flowing exhaust manifold. 6 bolt no cw. CAS are different through different gens.
